When is Reverend Wright going to speak at the convention?

I am kinda sad that Obama disowned this guy. He might have gotten to speak at the convention and powers only know what he would have had to say! Definitely a YouTube moment!

Only in the dreams of the GOP.

Is There Cheap Hotels Near The Los Angeles Convention Center?

Posted by admin on August 28th, 2009 and filed under convention center | 4 Comments »

I am trying to get a room for my cousin and I for Anime Expo 2009, which is July 2 – July 5. I wanted to know if there were any cheap hotels or motels near the Los Angeles Convention Center. Also, my cousin is 13, is that considered child or adult when booking a hotel? The quality of the hotel is not important to me, just the price. I tried getting the Holiday Inn near the Convention Center but it’s fully book for the dates that I wanted.

You can see what you can find on this list. I would check back frequently because new places are being screened and approved every day. So the list is constantly growing.

How does one become a delegate to a National Political Convention?

Posted by admin on August 28th, 2009 and filed under national convention | 4 Comments »

The Democrats in ‘08 in Denver; the Republicans in ‘08 in St. Paul. How do you become one of those folks who get to wear funny hats and bad T-shirts, hold up banners, cheer for lousy speeches, and be fodder and backdrop for cable TV coverage? How does one go about becoming a delegate to a National Political Convention?

It begins at the local level. To be a delegate to either national convention, you must first be a delegate to your party’s state convention. At the state convention, national convention delegates are elected by the state convention delegates (generally by precinct or state congressional districts). Most state’s convention delegates are selected at the local level during precinct or district meetings, although some state parties do select their delgates for conventions at the statewide-level (i.e. if you pay your state party dues, you’re elgible to register and attend the state convention). My advice would be to contact your county chairman of your preferred party. They generally have the time and the enthusiasm to explain the process versus your party’s state office.

I understand that terrorists do not apply to the GENEVA CONVENTION. Can someone explain why?

Im doing a debate on why torture SHOULD be allowed under certain circumstances, and I need a little more information on the Geneva Convention, Terrorists, and why they dont apply. I dont understand the Geneva convention fully, so all help is needed.

Thanks

To answer your question;

Because when it was written it only applied to combatants who wore a uniform and fought for a country or flag (note: spy’s are not covered). It is the very reason why terrorists are not covered by the Geneva Convention, they do not wear uniforms and fight for a flag or country.

It was written to prevent unnecessary killing of innocent civilians because of confusion in the battlefield, when one force dresses like the local population to gain tactical advantage.

Alsways wanted to become a delegate at a convention, how do you go about getting involved. Do you have to be involved from the getgo, like a year ago or can you start something now?

The process depends on where you live and your political party. For some states, the delegates are elected as part of the primary ballot. Those states require that you be involved at a very early stage of the process. In caucus states (and some primary states), the actual delegates are chosen by conventions near the end of the process.

My suggestion would be to contact your state party to get a copy of the rules. It also does not hurt to contact the campaign of the candidate that you are supporting to get on board early as they are more likely to be willing to consider you as a potential delegate if you are there from the start rather than at the last second. It also helps to have been involved in politics for a while or to have the support of a key organization within your party (e.g. union on the Democratic side and some church groups on the Republican side).

GONZALES UK Interview Torture: Provisions of Geneva Convention quaint & obsolete!

Jeremy Paxman interview with Alberto Gonzales
Alberto Gonzales, who was President Bush’s White House lawyer and who told the president that parts of the Geneva Convention were quaint and obsolete. No doubt he’ll be asked whether he accepts responsibility for water-boarding and detainees being paraded naked on dog leads etc, all the horrors of what were quaintly termed “enhanced interrogation techniques”.
