what would you tell a regular customer who wants a room that the hotel is fully booked and resolve the problem

Posted by admin on November 25th, 2009 and filed under convention services | 3 Comments »

a regular customer calls in at a hotel to reserve a room but there is a convention so the hotel is fully booked,if you are on customer service what would you tell the customer and how would you resolve the problem at hand?

When I have had this issue as a customer, the best answer for me would be to offer a suggestion with contact number to a competitor while saying – " We, always appreciate your business so if we can serve you again, please call us knowing that we will do whatever we can to serve you".

Does Israel have duty to act under the geneva convention?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under convention org | 19 Comments »

specifically the 4th that deals with treatment of peoples during an occupation. Gaza and the West Bank are considered occupied territories by many. So does that mean that by that Israel should have to abide by these conditions when it comes to whats happening in Gaza?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Geneva_Convention
Hamas isnt occupying anyone so no they dont even come under the 4th geneva convention
no joe in texas they did not leave. there are still settlers moving to the west bank.

but onto gaza considering Israel controls their electricity, amount of aid allowed in, doesnt let any of them out even if they want to go to other countrys it is not all Hamas’ fault. It is both Israel and Hamas’ fault for being brutal against each other. If you honestly think Israel is innocent then youre not even worth argueing with because youre completely blind to whats going on over there
matt d i dont think you understand what im talking about. im talking about the normal people of gaza not hamas

I thought I had an easy answer to this question, then I started looking at the nations that have ratified the Fourth Geneva Conventions… things get "fuzzy" (and lengthy):

"Since 1997 the Arab group at the United Nations has been trying to invoke the Fourth Geneva Convention against Israel, in regard to its settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip…"
"Israel rejects the interpretation of the Fourth Geneva Convention applying it to Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, stating that those territories were captured in 1967 as a result of a defensive war against countries which had illegally occupied them since 1948."
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/Human_Rights/geneva.html

"In February 1999, the GA adopted a resolution calling for a special UN session to be held on July 15, 1999, in Geneva to examine "persistent violations" by Israel."
Following is a link regarding that special session, which was boycotted by the US and Israel:
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/UN/geneva99.html

From the Wiki link cited in this question…
"Additional Protocol II of 1977 explicitly forbids collective punishment. But as fewer states have ratified this protocol than GCIV, GCIV Article 33. is the one more commonly quoted."

Concerning Protocol II…
"As of 14 January 2007, the Protocol had been ratified by 163 countries, with the United States, Israel, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan and Iraq being notable exceptions. However, the United States, Iran and Pakistan signed it on 12 December 1977 with the intention of ratifying it."
That’s right, Israel has neither signed nor ratified Protocol II.

<edit>
I very rarely cite a blog as a reference, but this one was interesting and helpful for Protocol II:

*** Take it with "a grain of salt", they’re wrong about Canada having declared Israel a "terrorist" nation. One official in 2006 made that remark and I think he was reprimanded.

What can visiting college students do for fun in the evening in Kansas City Missouri?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under convention city | 2 Comments »

Im traveling to Kansas City MO with a group of 8 students for a college newspaper convention at the Marriott Downtown Kansas City from Oct. 29-31. What can we do for fun when we’re done with the day’s convention stuff. Are all the bars 21-and-up? Only about half of us are 21.

-Well i hear that the Power and Light District is hot.
(I hear, I’m not exactly old enough to enjoy most of these attractions)

-The American Royal Livestock Show is Oct. 28-Nov. 1
(although I do not condone this treatment of animals)

-There are a lot of sick Haunted Houses
http://www.visitkc.com/things-to-do/suggested-itineraries/haunted-houses/index.aspx

-If I’m not mistaken, on Halloween night you can get a free Chipotle Burrito if you dress in aluminum foil, its definitely worth the long lines, I had lots of fun with my friends last year.

-Check out the city market

-Walk around the Plaza, there a tons of cool shops, and great restaurants. (some are a little pricey) might I suggest Winsteads, get a sky scrapper soda or shake :)

What is a good restaurant in Boston for a 100 person dinner?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under convention services | 4 Comments »

I need some help. In early November, I’m hosting a large event (100 people) in Boston and need a good place for dinner. We will be near the convention centre, so something around that area is best although we’d be willing to take a taxi too.

I’m looking for a great meal with good ambience and enough space that 100 people won’t feel too cramped. We also need a bar area to mill about before dinner. As well, we’d like the ability to choose our dinner over a shortened pre-selected menu (for example – 3 apps, 3 mains, 3 deserts).

Can anyone provide suggestions? Price really isn’t much of an option. I’ve budgeted $150-$175 per person (food, drinks, service, gratuity and taxes included).

Thanks for in advance for your help.

Maggianos. It’s Italian food.

Military tribunals and the Geneva Convention?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under geneva convention | 3 Comments »

I have two questions.

1) It is my understanding that military tribunals cannot actually try civilians, but only soldiers. Is this true? I know court martials are supposed to be for both soldiers and civilians, depending on the situation; but does anyone know if military tribunals are limited to soldiers only?

2) Are all soldiers covered under the Geneva convention, or just the soldiers of countries that signed the Geneva Accords?

1. Wong. Tribunals are for illegal combatants. An illegal combatant can be shot in the field with no trial of any kind. A soldier, in uniform, must be treated in compliance with the convention.

2. Only the ones who are in compliance with the convention. They must be clearly identifiable from the civilian population by wearing a distinct uniform or a marker of some kind.

Why did Republicans tell so many lies during their convention? Doesn’t Truth serve their purposes?

SOURCE: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/gop_convention_spin.html

Summary:

Joe Lieberman and his former Senate colleague Fred Thompson both made misleading claims about Obama in their prime time GOP convention speeches on Tuesday. We’ve heard two of them before – many times.

Lieberman said Obama hadn’t "reached across party lines" to accomplish "anything significant," though Obama has teamed with GOP Sens. Tom Coburn and Richard Lugar to pass laws enhancing government transparency and curtailing the proliferation of nuclear and conventional weapons.

Thompson repeated misleading claims about Obama’s tax program, saying it would bring "one of the largest tax increases in American history." But as increases go, Obama’s package is hardly a history-maker. It would raise taxes for families with incomes above $250,000. Most people would see a cut.

Lieberman also accused Obama of "voting to cut off funding for our American troops on the battlefield." But Obama’s only vote against a war-funding bill came after Bush vetoed a version of the bill Obama had supported – and McCain urged the veto.

That’s want the GOP is good at lies, rumors, fear tactics and hate mongering. They have to lie to get votes. The GOP work on people fears and prejudice. They have been in power for eight years and don’t want to give it up. They have to lie to win. (=

GLENSHAW PA. and has a picture of the company. It has a markig on the bottle of a G in a square on the neck and also has the same stamped on the bottom.. Bottle is about 5 or 6 inchs tall.

How many you senior citizens, served in the military and..?

…care to share details of where and when you served, and branch of service?

General Petraeus spoke here today, addressing the 91st Annual American Legion National Convention. One statement he made concerning war, that caught my attention was, (paraphrasing here) "It is not always about what we are against, but also what we are for." I like that statement.
Big John, as stated above, Petraeus was making reference to ‘war.’
