The Constitution can be amended when 2/3 of the states request that Congress call a constitutional convention. The convention proposes amendments, which then have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states.
I found a website called fixittogether.org, which is trying to help people lobby their state legislators to request a convention to propose a balanced budget amendment, a term limits amendment, an amendment to fix the judiciary, and an amendment to prohibit unfunded mandates. These all sound like good ideas to me. Could this really work?
At the Constitutional Convention of 1789, the founders created two ways to amend the Constitution. The first one is when Congress proposes an amendment, which must then be ratified by three-fourths of the states. The second method is when two-thirds of the states request it, Congress must call a constitutional convention to propose amendments. This second method has never been used. It was included in the Constitution because the framers feared that some day Congress would become corrupt and refuse to act, even in the face of strong public opinion.
It looks like FixitTogether.org states that over 70% of Americans support their proposed amendments. People have been trying to get Congress to pass things like a balanced budget and term limits amendment for decades. It sounds like FixitTogether.org’s strategy may be the only way to get those things done.

The Call for a Grand Convention
On May 15, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, is
so can you answer my question?
breaking away from Great Britain and officially putting the colonies in a state of defense.
hits New Orleans and we all know the levees might fail again after 3 years of Bush cronyism that undercut the rebuilding and that’s the REAL reason why Bush doesn’t want to show up at the convention…HIS CRONYISM is what’s going to be responsible for the possible collapsing levees!
St. Paul is offering 5 day leases to retailers hoping that they will fill vacant storefronts so the city doesn’t look so bad on national TV. I can already hear the post convention reports about shop keepers who lose everything on a convention that was canceled.
I think this summarizes the 8 years of republican rule perfectly.
Failure on top of failure on top of failure…
Yes, this conventions are symbolic. Magnificence to Disaster. Wake up people you are getting all kinds of signs!!!!…Also, remember the people who prayed that Obama would get rained out on the night of his speech? Republicans don’t get it that "love they neighbor as thyself" means you are your neighbor!!! What you put out in life for others also comes back to you. So whether you believe in prayer or quantum physics. This is a sign of what that energy did. The wanted a disaster & they got it. The dems wanted peace, joy, love, harmony for all & we got it….I had a man who is a vet from the Korean war tell me he was in tears watching the dems convention cause it was just so great. Everyone fell in love with the people their their the Obama girls, Beau Biden, Jill all of them are such lovely people & then an obnoxious beauty queen who is being investigated for abuse of power shows up on the republican front, OMG.
Me and my friends use to hang out at the community service convention. It just melted my heart to see those old people’s gratitude when you gave em tht glass of milk or blanket…..But now they spend all their time at church! Here’s how it started: we all one day decided to go to church b/c this rather strange kid with swirlies in his eyes invited us. It was a teen oriented sunday school like thing, not really church and they had cookies and…KOOL AID!!! I had a cookie but I passed up the kool aid because I had brought a bottled water with me, i couldn’t say the same bout my friends. They all drank at least 4 paper cups full. After we left the church I couldn’t wait to talk to my friends about how silly what they said were and how obvious they were trying to put fear in us so we would join and strengthen the community or feel guilty…but all their eyes were glassed over and they just looked at me and said, ‘You are going to hell!’ and started chanting.. HELP!!! what happened to them?
I’m 15….lol..don’t have a day job.
haha…ty mama bear.
i say nothing cause this sounds made up
Someone has suffered in their life or they have a really tragic story to tell. Two women (let’s call them Kathie and Hoda) drag them onto television and increase their suffering tenfold by making them listen to an incredibly sappy and/or maudlin song. I ask you, should this be allowed to continue?
The Geneva Conventions consist of four treaties and three additional protocols that set the standards in international law for humanitarian treatment of the victims of war. If these women are classified as victims of war as prisoners and their rights have been violated, than they should be protected. Otherwise, as sad as their stories might be, the conventions have nothing to do with them. There are civil and criminal laws, which might be applicable to their situations.
I want to go to the Salute to Supernatural convention but I really don’t know anything about it! Will the actors be there, or will just be the producers and some random people talking?
I Don’t Even Think They Have Supernatural Conventions For Real. I Know They Probably Do Comicon Which Is Basically Just The Same Thing But With A Little Bit Of Everything….
I recall many claims against the US regarding alleged violations of the Geneva Conventions coming from the press, the enemy and from the American Democrat party. There was much ink mostly about the actions of a few, not official US policy.
In the case of this new Iranian Hostage event, there is no question that this is the official policy of the Iranians.
Hostages have been taken. Even after it was established through photographic and GPS evidence that the ‘arrest’ was erroneous, Iran has not returned the hostages.
Hostages’ images were used in propaganda. Statements are being coerced and publicized for political advantage.
The woman, Faye Turney has been dressed in a head scarf.
These are all clear violations of the Geneva Conventions yet I haven’t seen stories addressing this situation as such.
My question is WHY?
