I don’t think the city or state are the ones that you need to contact – you’d need to contact the organizers of the big animecons.

Google anime cons and find out some of their contact details.

What are your thoughts on torturing people for information?

Posted by admin on October 19th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 12 Comments »

I admit I go back and forth on this issue and at different times find myself feeling very strongly about either side.

Do you feel torturing suspects for information is okay? How far is too far? When is it okay, and when (if it does) does it violate human rights?

Also, for those who know (because I do not) – some say that in certain cases, torture violates the Geneva conventions – when are prisoners considered ‘prisoners of war’ – who/what makes that distinction?

i disagree with it in theory…

HOWEVER.. .if i had a terrorist in front of me.. knowing he had planted a bomb in a location and it was going to go off in an hour i WOULD get the information as to it’s location out of him… and it doesn’t matter how many of his parts i had to take off to do it.

it is a matter of expedience.. when you are dealing with terrorists they are targeting civilians and you have a very limited time to get information from them… would you rather see 1000 people die from a chemical weapon or break a rule.. your choice. .you have X time to come up with an answer…
—————————————-

i agree that if you are looking for long term interrogation techniques it isn’t the best one available. .and is possibly the worst.. but if you need an answer within 24 hours it is probably the only one that would work.

sorry last part what makes em subject to Geneva convention.. as the man says it is specified in the convention code..

basically they have to be wearing a uniform.. have an organized command hierarchy and represent a government…

since terrorists do NOT have an organized command hierarchy and do not wear uniforms they are not subject to the Geneva convention.

Should I go to the 20th Anniversary International Society of Poets Convention and Symposium this year?

Posted by admin on October 19th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 1 Comment »

I’ve been getting invitations for almost four years now and I’ve been recently "mail-bombed" with editors from Poetry.com. It’s all about this yearly event where a few selected poets compete for grand prizes that go up to the tens of thousands of dollars; anyone ever heard of it?

I’ve been feeling kind of guilty always not able to attend in their conventions because I don’t have the time and money for that sort of trip.

I posted an example of my poetry – http://armageddon1024.blogspot.com/ – and I want you guys to be the early judge. How do you like this piece? Am I good enough to compete in a national contest such as this?

YEAH, LETS DO IT SOMETIME.

How to Invite famous people to be guests at a convention?

Posted by admin on October 17th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 3 Comments »

I was just wondering how one goes about doing that? I don’t run a convention, or anything like that. I am a volunteer at some though.

There are some people that i would love to ask to see if they would be interested as being guests.

Who would i need to contact? Their agent? and how would i find THAT contact information? How do i go about asking to come? are there any other things i need to keep in mind when doing that? Price, place to stay, etc?

Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

Contact their media officer and see if they agree to it or not.

Quotes and Stances of Hugh Williamson at Constitutional Convention?

Posted by admin on October 15th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 1 Comment »

Does anyone have any quotes or information on who Hugh Williamson sided with at the Constititional Convention?

He was for a strong national government and supported the Ratification fo the constitution.

I searched him and on Wikipedia is the following info:

…determined leader in the campaign for effective national government. This leadership was evident not only at the Convention in Philadelphia but also, with telling effect, during the ratification debates in North Carolina.

Here is another portion from second reference:

The next year, he again served in Congress (1787-89) and was chosen as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. Attending faithfully and demonstrating keen debating skill, he served on five committees, notably on the Committee on Postponed Matters, and played a significant part in the proceedings, particularly the major compromise on representation.

Need information on a conference being held in Disneyland Convention Center from Oct 30-Nov2,06?

A friend of mine has been invited to a conference in Anaheim California being held in the Disneyland Convention Center from October 30-November 2, 2006. The topic is supposed to be on Racism and Prevention Strategies. My friend wants to know this is legitimate as this brochure claims that his trip will be completely paid for, he does not have much money and needs to know this is legitimate…please help me find this out for him he needs an answer as soon as possible…please keep this question open for the next few weeks if possible thanks so much

Contact the convention center and ask them. I don’t see a listing for that on those dates. Call the center.

the constitutional convention was very secretive and did not want to leak information to the press. why?

Posted by admin on October 9th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 2 Comments »

do you think it is possible today? why?

The convention was held in the Pennsylvania State House during the hot summer of 1787, the windows were kept shut so that others could not hear the discussions.

Historians had generally agreed that secrecy at the convention had been invoked so that the founding fathers could speak their minds openly, make compromises freely, prohibit partisan press coverage, and avoid all chances of a public clamor over difficult issues that might break up the convention. Executive, or closed door sessions of government bodies, moreover, were nothing new at the time, and property restrictions on the right to vote were not then considered prohibitive.

Of course, it wouldn’t work now because of the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meeting rule.

Can anyone provide links and information about the War genre in movies?

Posted by admin on October 9th, 2009 and filed under convention information | 1 Comment »

I am doing an assignment that requires me to strudy many aspects of the War movie genre. I need information such as typical plotlines, typical characters, associated directors/actors, War genre history, codes and conventions etc.
If anyone can provide links to sites that would be helpful or information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I googled "war movie genre" and got the wikipedia answer. I looked through it and it lists a whole bunch of movies. From there you can pretty much cherry pick which films you want to use.

Wikipedia Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_film

Personally if I were you, I’d use the films: Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and Saving Private Ryan. ALL have powerful plots, characters, and directors. Here is some info on each film as well:

Platoon: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091763/
Full Metal Jacket: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093058/
Saving Private Ryan: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120815/

I’d suggest going over those and then google each film title to get more in-depth information on characters and directors.

If you get stuck let me know, I’m on Yahoo messenger and my ID is crazygirlwithascythe

Good luck with your assignment.
