I’m working on a homework assignment for history class and I left my text book at school! My question is what was the purpose of the Constitutional Convention?

The original purpose of the Convention was to amend the Articles of the Confederation.

What is the difference between grill or a convention microwave oven?

Posted by admin on November 2nd, 2009 and filed under convention | 2 Comments »

I plan to buy a microwave and I would like to know what is the difference between a grill and a convention microwave oven and what is best suited to Indian cooking

Microwave technology is different than conventional. Conventional oven is simply an electric coil heated by electricity, most of the ovens the coil is visible. Microwave is fast &less electricity consuming. Conventional is more time &electricity consuming than microwave. But believe me, when it comes to taste, some dishes can make difference like day and night. I have a combination grill (Microwave & Conventional), I always prefer to use convention method for grill &use microwave for warm/reheating food.

The Annapolis Convention was a meeting at Annapolis, Maryland of 12 delegates from five states (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia) that called for a constitutional convention. The formal title of the meeting was a Meeting of Commissioners to Remedy Defects of the Federal Government. The defects that they were to remedy were those barriers that limited trade or commerce between the largely independent states under the Articles of Confederation.

The convention met from September 11 to September 14, 1786. The commissioners felt that there were not enough states represented to make any substantive agreement. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and North Carolina had appointed commissioners who failed to get to the meeting in time to attend it, while Connecticut, Maryland, South Carolina and Georgia had taken no action at all.

They produced a report which was sent to the Congress and to the states. The report asked support for a broader meeting to be held the next May in Philadelphia. It expressed the hope that more states would be represented and that their delegates or deputies would be authorized to examine areas broader than simply commercial trade.

The direct result of the report was the Philadelphia Convention of 1787.

What would Native Americans have fought for in the constitutional convention?

I have to write an essay for history about what Native Americans, African Americans, and women would have fought for had they participated in the constitutional convention and how would that affect the whole process?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think African Americans would have fought to be freed from slavery and women would have probably fought for voting rights, but what would Native Americans have fought for?

Limited expansion of large populations into sparsely-populated areas.

Property rights for nomadic peoples.

How to get a cheap hotel near to the RAI convention center in Amsterdam?

Posted by admin on October 23rd, 2009 and filed under convention | 6 Comments »

I am gonna be in Amsterdam at the end of this month to attend a conference. The conference will be held at the RAI convention center.
Since i am a student i can’t afford to spend much money. I am looking for a relatively cheap but good hotel that should be near to the RAI convention center. Does anyone have any idea ??

Well I used to live just a couple of tram stops from the RAI, so I never stayed in the hotels there, but we did have external guests visiting our company, and the majority of hotels around the RAI (if not all) cater for business travellers and budget accordingly!

There was one that opened up that was marketing itself towards budget business travellers http://www.qbichotels.com/concept-qbic-hotels/ and specifically http://www.qbichotels.com/qbic-hotel-amsterdam-netherlands/

You can read the reviews from people who have stayed here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188590-d636331-Reviews-Qbic_Hotel_Amsterdam_WTC-Amsterdam_Noord_Holland.html to give you an idea of if this is something for you or not

If you had to write a one paragraph opening statement to the Constitutional Convention what would you choose?

Posted by admin on October 23rd, 2009 and filed under convention | 1 Comment »

Say you were asked to write a one-paragraph opening statement to the Constitutional Convention of May 25th, 1787, and the statement could either be for or against the articles of confederation. What would you choose and which specific facts, and details would you include to support your position?

I would chose neither. My opening statement would include the weaknesses of the Articles and a call for open honest discussion on how to alter or replace thee Articles. I would ask delegates to think about the Nation as a whole, and not just their individual states.

What were the two main compromises of the Constitutional Convention and how did they affect the government?

Posted by admin on October 21st, 2009 and filed under convention | 1 Comment »

What were the two main compromises of the Constitutional Convention and how did they affect the government?

Probably the Great Compromise (also known as the Connecticut Compromise) and the Three-Fifths Compromise.

The Great Compromise allowed both large and small states to agree to the Constitution without seriously diminishing their power in Congress. The small-population states wanted a Congress with equal representation from all states, and the large-population states wanted a Congress with representation proportional to the number of residents of each state. Connecticut proposed a two-house Congress with a House of Representatives based on population and a Senate comprised of two members from each state, regardless of its population.
The Three-Fifths Compromise settled the dispute between Northern states and Southern states over the definition of "population" for determining the number of members a state had in the House of Representatives. Northern states thought that slaves should not be counted, and Southern states thought they should. The Compromise that both sides agreed to was to count each slave as three-fifths of a person.

What will happen if the Democratic race is not resolved before the nation convention?

If by the time of the national convention, Obama is leading the delegate count but does not have enough to win, will Hillary be able to convince enough super delegates to back her in order for her to get the nomination? She will use the argument that she won most of the large states.

It will be a mud-sling between Obama and Clinton. This will be good for McCain who doesn’t have the fortitude to do the same in the general.

Hillary is fond of saying she won Ohio and she did but she does not want to mention she lost the major urban cities.
