Why Is It Important To Have Delegates at The Convention?

In August, When the Nominee is usually chosen in June or July? Why are the delegates at the convention in Denver? And why does it matter if its only a Half a delegate?

The convention is where the official votes are cast including for vice president which is not decided until then. Furtermore it has happened in the past that no candidate earns the nomination and the selection is left to the delegates at the convention.

But more importantly the convention also votes on the rules that the party will operate under for the next 4 years. If you don’t think that is important see the Michigan and Florida controversy.

Also the party platform is voted on. The platform is the official position of the party on a variety of issues.
