Talk about a waste of money . I could think of a lot of places that money could really help out like
The Disabled Veterans of America .

Unlike liberals, we can afford this chump change.

All the main speakers have backed out for just that reason. It became a for profit event which goes against what we’re fighting for.
Your premise = fail.

At least the conventioneers aren’t forcibly taking my money whether or not I take advantage of their services, which is more than I can say for the government.

At this point, there is no real tea-party leadership. Anyone claiming to be puting on a convention is a scammer, or a wanna-be, or both.

Tea Partiers are about personal, professional and governmental fiscal responsibility. If someone wants to attend without demanding the taxpayers foot the bill, how is that a problem?
There is a split in opinion: the premise of Tea Partiers is the spontaneous individual, grassroots movement vs. some who feel it is time to get centrally organized.
I think there is room for both.

Nancy Pelosi can spend that in 5 mins aboard an Air Force plane. Seriously, they are having it at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and it is really nice. $549 seems like a lot of money but it is a really nice place.

Well, my wife and I as well as many of our friends and neighbors have attended a number of Tea Party protests here in Richmond. So we’re part of this movement. Despite this fact, we see no reason and no need for a ‘convention’. That’s some Tea Party faction out there. They’re welcome to it, but our grass roots movement does not require it.
So, bottom line, we don’t need to come up with any money or attend any conventions. And this fact does not diminish the power of the movement in the least.
