For those who have been to an Atheist convention before, what was it like?
Will there be stalls outside?
Will you be going to the convention in Melbourne, Australia next year?
What’s the gender ratio like? Is it close to equal or is there a noticeably higher percentage of one compared to the other?
I will be going. I’m sure it will be good, considering the calibre of the presenters.
I am just curious about the atmosphere and whatnot, since I don’t think I’ve ever attended a convention before.
I’ve always wanted to hear Dawkins speak in person. He has a lot of really interesting things to say. But I guess they talk a lot about science? I don’t know, but I love Dawkins.

Been to Melbourne, it was okay.
They have a nice trolley ride around the city that you can take and have dinner and see the city. The food is good.

No, I don’t make it a practice of attending gay pride marches

…
What goes on at an Atheist convention?
I’m honestly curious, what do they do? Talk about proofs for the nonexistence of God or something?

More men than women.
Official studies have been done (can’t link to them off the top of my head) that have shown women ‘need’ the comforts of religion/weekly church attendence more than men do.

I’d be happy to go if someone would buy me tickets. (including plane/motel/etc.
Interesting Q re: gender. Most of the Atheists I know personally are female, but most of the well known Atheist authors are male.

They have Richard Dawkins! You must see him.
I have not been to an atheist convention either but I’m sure it will be a good laugh with so many comedians (after all, it is better to laugh at religion, otherwise you’d cry) and well as a good mix of academics. Try to get Robin Williams to interview you.
