Because we are the only nation that abides by it ! We can't bloody the nose of a prisoner, and now the moron in the White House wants the military to make citizens arrest on the battle field if they aren't killed first trying ! Look at the Navy seals being charged because of his new policy's we train them to be stealth , fast, and efficient then when they bring in a most wanted criminal of war they are charges with assault ! Why don't you consider those countries who don't give a damn about the Geneva Convention, or its documents? Your idea of 'show them your better than them' does not exists in the minds of criminals. We are fighting an insurgency and terrorism system that utilizes means to succeed on their own terms; not a nation/country. Yet, as someone mentions above, War is War. I think even a “civilized” nation could disregard Geneva if it meant to succeed. However, it can work to the benefit of protecting the troops. Nations are required to honor the codes to treat POW’s in a certain manner and humanly. If they disregard these, they can be held accountable post war/victory for their disregard of Geneva conventions. Geneva Convention is an extremely important document for any military combatants. It protects them against inhumane treatment such as torture and allows Red Cross to assess their condition on regular basis.
