What Do You DO at an Anime Convention?

Posted by admin on August 22nd, 2009 and filed under conventions | 25 Comments »

I can never really answer this question and I get it a lot so I wanted to make a video about what it is that people do at Anime Conventions. Of course, I forgot to interview people so I only got a few clips XD

Sorry for stupid sound quality. Must get camera fixed.
Sound out of sync on Umika and Jazz’s interview for some reason ^^; Sorry ladies!

A big thank you to all my interviewees! Umika, Jazz, THE FOXY LADIES: Allie and Marie, Sora, Riku, twistletoe (sorry if I spelt that wrong! Please let me know if I did) and AE Guest! You are all awesome :D

Clips from AE and Fanime.

Concert was Mark Hildreth. He is AWESOME! Check out his music here: http://www.mark-hildreth.com/

Panel was Lazlo and kolibri’s Photography Panel

Convention 2009 Preview

Posted by admin on August 3rd, 2009 and filed under convention information | 6 Comments »

Delegates, adults, young adults, youth, junior high, and children of all ages are invited to Mennonite Church USA Convention 2009 in Columbus, Ohio. The week will start with a day-long event for pastors Tuesday, June 30. Youth and adult worship services begin at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening. Convention 2009 will end late in the evening on Saturday, July 4. Please plan to travel home Sunday, July 5. Special events will include joint worship, hymn sings, a Christian music concert featuring Kutless, servant projects, learning opportunities, recreation and worship featuring numerous speakers from across the country. For more information visit http://www.MennoniteUSA.org/convention after June 2008.

Online registration will begin at 8 a.m. Eastern Standard Time December 1, 2008, at http://www.MennoniteUSA.org/convention. Paper registration forms will be sent to each Mennonite Church USA congregation and organization. Paper registration forms will be accepted beginning January 2, 2009.

The convention theme, “Breathe and be filled,” is a theme meant to remind us that before we can recognize where God is at work in the world and join that work, we must first breathe in and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. In John 20:21-22, the Scripture for Convention 2009, Jesus breathes on the disciples and invites them to receive God’s Spirit so they can be prepared for the work that lies ahead. Just as Jesus’ disciples were encouraged to take in God’s Spirit so they could do God’s work in the world, so will everyone who comes to Convention 2009 be invited to take a moment to stop and breathe in God’s Spirit. It’s not about breathing to be content. It’s about breathing so that Mennonite Church USA can grow as a community of grace, joy and peace so that God’s healing and hope flow through us to the world.

We hope to see you at Convention 2009! Please pass this information along to others who might enjoy attending.

Blessings,
Mennonite Church USA Executive Leadership

2. Call Representative Bill Batchelder. He is a very good man. I’ve known
him for years. But he has been misled on this issue. The word is he is
wavering. Your calls can convince him to withdraw his support. That can kill

Michigan Swan: Anime Convention 2009

Posted by admin on July 31st, 2009 and filed under conventions | 25 Comments »

Hey gang, welcome to another special Michigan Swan episode. In this one, I went with my friend Rupert to JAFAX, which is now on its 14th year. It’s a convention held at Grand Valley State University that focues on anime, manga and games. It’s also totally free to get into, which sets it apart from other conventions. So, while it may not be the largest con (for some of those, see my tokyo swan series), it doesn’t cost a dime to walk into the door which is cool.

We went two years ago, and just like last time we decided to cosplay and dress in costumes to get into the spirit of things. Last time, I picked a (at the time in america) character that was fairly obscure to American anime fans (kyon from the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya), but this time Rupert and I got a great reception for our Pokemon ‘team rocket grunt’ costumes. They were also extremely cheap to make, so I was very pleased with the results.

The convention itself was fun (especially if you are into cosplay). There were different booths selling anime goods, and there were different rooms showing subbed and dubbed anime, childrens anime, adult anime (hillarious), as well as music videos and other fun things. Anyways, hope you enjoy this episode of Michigan Swan… and see you next time!
