What Do You DO at an Anime Convention?

Posted by admin on August 22nd, 2009 and filed under conventions | 25 Comments »

I can never really answer this question and I get it a lot so I wanted to make a video about what it is that people do at Anime Conventions. Of course, I forgot to interview people so I only got a few clips XD

Sorry for stupid sound quality. Must get camera fixed.
Sound out of sync on Umika and Jazz’s interview for some reason ^^; Sorry ladies!

A big thank you to all my interviewees! Umika, Jazz, THE FOXY LADIES: Allie and Marie, Sora, Riku, twistletoe (sorry if I spelt that wrong! Please let me know if I did) and AE Guest! You are all awesome :D

Clips from AE and Fanime.

Concert was Mark Hildreth. He is AWESOME! Check out his music here: http://www.mark-hildreth.com/

Panel was Lazlo and kolibri’s Photography Panel

Michigan Swan: Anime Convention 2009

Posted by admin on July 31st, 2009 and filed under conventions | 25 Comments »

Hey gang, welcome to another special Michigan Swan episode. In this one, I went with my friend Rupert to JAFAX, which is now on its 14th year. It’s a convention held at Grand Valley State University that focues on anime, manga and games. It’s also totally free to get into, which sets it apart from other conventions. So, while it may not be the largest con (for some of those, see my tokyo swan series), it doesn’t cost a dime to walk into the door which is cool.

We went two years ago, and just like last time we decided to cosplay and dress in costumes to get into the spirit of things. Last time, I picked a (at the time in america) character that was fairly obscure to American anime fans (kyon from the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya), but this time Rupert and I got a great reception for our Pokemon ‘team rocket grunt’ costumes. They were also extremely cheap to make, so I was very pleased with the results.

The convention itself was fun (especially if you are into cosplay). There were different booths selling anime goods, and there were different rooms showing subbed and dubbed anime, childrens anime, adult anime (hillarious), as well as music videos and other fun things. Anyways, hope you enjoy this episode of Michigan Swan… and see you next time!
