When you are participating in the exhilarating sport of traditional rock climbing, there is specialized equipment that is necessary for the climbers use. This rock climbing gear will help you to accomplish reaching the top of your challenge safely and securely.

The typical mountain climbing gear that is needed to enjoy the sport of rock climbing is:

A helmet suited for rock climbing-Worn squarely on the head without tipping forward or backward.

* A rappelling device-A metal piece that attaches to the harness of a climber. This piece lets the climber slide down.

* A rope-Two types are used, Dynamic (can stretch) and Static (cannot stretch).

* A harness-A belt that attaches around the waist and legs of the climber. Will provide security when attached to a rope.

* Carabiners-A metal piece that holds the rope at one end and the bolt at the other end.

* Rock climbing shoes-These should have a stiff sole and cut high around the ankle for support.

* A belay device-A piece of equipment that attaches to the second climber. The rope is run through it and fed out to the lead climber.

* Chalk for your hands or gloves-Chalk will absorb any sweat on your hands. This will help you to obtain a firmer grip. Gloves will protect your hands. Leather is a good choice for gloves.

* Quickdraws-Two carabiners held together by webbing made of nylon. This is used to connect the bolt to the rope.
